10.00-11.00: Cinema-ye Azad
Hadi Alipanah sheds light on the untold and forgotten history of the Cinema-ye Azad movement, which involved over 300 filmmakers making over 1,000 short films in Super 8 between 1969 and 1979, across over 20 cities in Iran. Recently, some of the movement’s films were discovered and digitized for the first time in 45 years. Alipanah presents two of these Super 8 short films.

11.00-12.00: archipelago
Armina Pilav and Clarissa Thieme discuss their practice in the realm of the recently initiated collaborative project archipelago. It is a designed, site specific archival platform based on the existing augmented [archive] project conceived by Kaya Behkalam and Farhan Khalid. archipelago brings together documents of the Yugoslav Wars (1991–2001) as well as other related documents from Serbia, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, made by citizens and/or photographers and filmmakers. They expose different archival mediums that are in constant transition, changing forms and formats, from the architectures to the images of war as photos, video, film, and vice versa.

12.00-13.00: Film Undone. Elements of a Latent Cinema
This presentation serves as a prelude to the upcoming event, Film Undone. Elements of a Latent Cinema, which will convene artists, filmmakers, researchers, curators, and archivists in Berlin from July 20 to 23. The program features film projects which remained unfinished and unseen, or were realized in non-filmic media. Elements of a latent cinema contain potentialities which expand and challenge a conventional understanding of cinema’s materials, socio-political functions, histories, and futures.
Philip Widmann presents the program. Olexii Kuchanskyi and Oleksiy Radynski introduce their work with the non-archive of 11,000 film reels found in the former Popular Science Film Studio in Kyiv. The discovered material includes unedited rushes and footage from the Kyiv School of Science Film. See also: www.latent-cinema.net
